Penrith RMS

Penrith RMS has now moved to 333 High Street Penrith NSW. They are now part of Services NSW the big red building near the Police station. The building is located opposite St Nicholas of Myra primary school near the Penrith Police Station. This has implications for people learning to drive in Penrith.

The relocation of the testing centre to Penrith means that there are a number of things that have changed in the driving test. Our Penrith driving instructors have put together the following driving tips when taking the RMS driving test in Penrith.

Penrith RMS Driving Test

The driving test now starts and finishes in the main street of Penrith. Regardless of which test track you are tested on your driving test will start in front of the Services NSW building. When you start the test you have to pull out from the kerb and enter the traffic in the main street. As you pull out from the kerb you can encounter traffic coming from three directions:

Cars travelling along High Street.
Vehicles turning onto High Street from an underground car park
Motorists turning Left from Lawson Street onto High Street.

At the beginning and end of the test you are in a high volume pedestrian area with a 40 km/h speed limit; which of course means a greater chance of pedestrians walking in front of you. So when you start the test and you are looking behind you for a break in the traffic to pull out from the kerb into the main street, you also have to monitor in front of you for pedestrians.

Your test is also affected by increased traffic around school zone times due to the relatively close proximity to St Nicholas of Myra Public School, Penrith Public school and Penrith High School. This means that there is a lot more traffic and congestion than at the old RMS test centre in Batt Street.

At the end of the test you are required to park the car. Due to traffic congestion this means that you may be required to do a reverse parallel park at the end of the test in the main street of Penrith.
